Kevin Spacey Returns as Luthor

Thursday, July 12, 2007 at 08:06am

Kevin Spacey will be reprising his role as Lex Luthor for the Superman sequel. Meh. When we saw Superman: Returns, we had a discussion about how the franchise could use some new villains. I hope we get some besides Lex. Not that Kevin Spacey wasn’t good, but he was doing Gene Hackman doing Lex Luthor, IMO. Anyway. I guess this means Kate Bosworth is coming back. Ugh.

Bored already. Hopefully, Luthor will just act as a plot device to introduce a more interesting villain that hasn’t had any movie time yet, like Brainiac or Metallo or The Ultra-Humanite.

Or, you know, Singer could just use some of that fancy CGI money to bring a computer-generated version of the Richard Pryor character from Superman 3 back to life.

I was kind of disappointed in Kevin Spacey’s performance. I was hoping he’d go somewhere new with it, and he didn’t.

That was pretty much my opinion of the whole movie.

I really enjoyed Superman Returns but I think that was colored by how much my 5 y.o. nephew couldbarelystayinhisseatLOVED IT.

Maybe with this casting Lex Luthor will instead deal with his inner demons, and give Superman some tongue.

TOA, I think you’re more likely to see that on Smallville.
